New awards to acknowledge employers who hire persons with disabilities London, ON - The Ability First Coalition is pleased to announce the creation of The Ability First Coalition Champions Awards, a new awards program to honour employers who hire and retain persons with disabilities. Ability First Coalition, who works closely with Partners in Employment (PIE), is also partnering with the Human Resources Professionals of London and District (HRPLD) to promote and encourage business to become involved in this important initiative. Betty Holme, Co-chair of the Ability First Coalition notes, We want to recognize employers who are going above and beyond to hire inclusively and through their success stories we are hoping to encourage other employers to do the same. Awards will be given out in three categories: Small Business, Large Business and Champion. A Champions Awards nomination form with detailed information is available at www.abilityfirst.on.ca. Two finalists in each category will be decided and a video made of each finalist. Completed nominations must be received by September 30, 2010. A Gala Awards and Fundraising event will take place on November 16, 2010 at the London Convention Centre to present the Champions Awards and raise funds for the Ability First Coalition. The Ability First Coalition is a non-profit group of business people who provide information and resources to employers who would like to employ a person with a disability. For over five years Ability First has met to share best practices and success stories regarding hiring and retaining persons with disabilities.
